TopstepX to Tradovate trade copier

How copying from TopstepX to Tradovate works

Topstep traders who have outgrown one firm often add evaluations at Apex, FundedNext Futures or E8 Markets on Tradovate. With TopstepX leading, you keep trading on TopstepX and the Tradovate accounts follow.

The TopstepX lead

The TopstepX lead connects through the ProjectX API with your TopstepX username and an API key. You keep trading in TopstepX as usual; CopyFlock reads the lead's fills through the API, so that login needs an active ProjectX API subscription.

The Tradovate followers

Tradovate followers connect through OAuth too, so CopyFlock never sees their password. If Tradovate ends the authorised session — after a password change, for example — the dashboard flags the account and you sign in again; the other followers carry on.

How to copy trades from TopstepX to Tradovate

Step 1: Start a free trial
Create a CopyFlock account and start the 7-day free trial on 2 accounts — one TopstepX lead and one Tradovate follower. A card is required; cancel during the trial and you pay nothing.
Step 2: Connect the TopstepX lead
Activate ProjectX API access for your TopstepX login and generate an API key, then choose Add account → TopstepX and enter your TopstepX username and the key.
Step 3: Connect the Tradovate followers
Choose Add account → Tradovate and sign in on Tradovate's page for each login that holds a follower account.
Step 4: Create the copy
Pick the TopstepX account as the lead and the Tradovate accounts as followers. Choose a sizing mode for each follower: contract multiplier 1 for the same size, equity ratio for accounts of different sizes, or fixed contracts.
Step 5: Add caps and protection
Set a maximum contract cap and balance or equity thresholds that fit each Tradovate account's rules. Reaching a threshold flattens and pauses that follower.
Step 6: Test with one contract
Place a one-contract trade on the TopstepX lead and confirm each follower's order in the copy log. During the trial, followers copy a fixed 1 contract.

Sizing example: TopstepX lead, Tradovate followers

Lead (Topstep 50K) buys 2 CL with a stop 20 ticks away ($200 per contract)

Apex 50K on Tradovate — fixed risk $400: $400 ÷ $200 = 2 CL
FundedNext 25K on Tradovate — alias CL→MCL ×5: 2 × 5 = 10 MCL (half the lead's exposure)
E8 100K on Tradovate — equity ratio, max 3: 100 ÷ 50 × 2 = 4, capped at 3 CL

One MCL is a tenth of a CL contract, so an alias multiplier of 10 matches the lead's exposure and 5 halves it.

Things to know before copying TopstepX to Tradovate

Followers fill after the lead. Each follower order is sent once the lead's fill is reported, so follower prices can differ slightly, especially with market orders in fast markets.
Manual changes stay manual. If you close a follower by hand, it stays closed and joins in again with the lead's next trade.
Symbols copy as they are. A Tradovate follower trades the lead's contract unless you add a symbol alias, for example NQ to MNQ.
Futures only. CQG, Quantower and Volumetrica connections are not supported.
Prop firm rules come first. Check that every firm involved allows copying between your own accounts — see prop firm copy trading rules.

Can I copy trades from TopstepX to Tradovate in real time?

Yes. CopyFlock sends each Tradovate follower its order as soon as the TopstepX lead's fill is reported. Followers fill a moment later than the lead and may get a slightly different price.

Does TopstepX need to stay open for trades to copy?

No. CopyFlock reads the lead through the ProjectX API from the cloud. Open TopstepX only when you want to place trades on the lead.

Does copying out of a Topstep account break Topstep's rules?

Topstep sets its own rules on copy trading and trading several accounts, and they change from time to time. Read the current rules in Topstep's help center, and check each Tradovate firm's rules as well. CopyFlock is not affiliated with Topstep.

Can I copy from Tradovate to TopstepX as well?
