How to copy trades from Tradovate to Rithmic (and back)

Futures traders rarely keep every account on one platform. Your personal account might be on Tradovate, your Apex evaluations on Rithmic and your Topstep account on TopstepX. Copying between them used to mean running a platform add-on that could see all of them at once. With a cloud copier, each account connects on its own, and trades flow between platforms in any direction.

This guide covers Tradovate to Rithmic, Rithmic to Tradovate, and the TopstepX combinations, plus the practical differences between the platforms that matter when you copy.

How cross-platform copying works

CopyFlock holds a separate connection to each account you add — Tradovate through OAuth sign-in, Rithmic through username, password and system, TopstepX through the ProjectX API. When the lead account fills, CopyFlock sends the matching order to each follower through that follower's own connection. The lead and followers never need to be on the same platform, and nothing has to run on your computer.

Copying is futures to futures. The same contract is traded on each follower unless you add a symbol alias on that follower, for example to trade MNQ instead of NQ.

Tradovate to Rithmic: step by step

  1. Step 1: Start a trial

Create a CopyFlock account and start the 7-day free trial on 2 accounts — exactly one Tradovate lead and one Rithmic follower. A card is required; cancel during the trial and you pay nothing.

  2. Step 2: Connect the Tradovate lead

Choose Add account → Tradovate and sign in on Tradovate's page. CopyFlock never sees your password. NinjaTrader brokerage accounts connect the same way.

  3. Step 3: Connect the Rithmic follower

Choose Add account → Rithmic, enter the Rithmic username and password and select the system your firm uses — Apex, Bulenox, Earn2Trade, TheTradingPit, Tradeify, Rithmic 01 or Rithmic Paper Trading.

  4. Step 4: Create the copy

Pick the Tradovate account as the lead and the Rithmic account as the follower. Choose a sizing mode: contract multiplier 1 for the same size, equity-to-equity if the accounts differ.

  5. Step 5: Add caps and protection

Set a maximum contract cap and balance or equity thresholds that fit the Rithmic account's rules.

  6. Step 6: Test and trade

Place a one-contract trade on Tradovate and confirm the Rithmic follower's order in the copy log.

Rithmic to Tradovate: what changes

The steps are the same with the roles swapped: connect the Rithmic account and make it the lead, connect the Tradovate account and make it a follower. A few points are specific to a Rithmic lead:

  • Trade from any Rithmic front end. Orders from R|Trader Pro, NinjaTrader 8 on a Rithmic connection or other Rithmic-connected platforms all count, because CopyFlock watches the account itself.
  • R|Trader Pro can stay open. CopyFlock's connection does not stop you using R|Trader Pro on the same login.
  • One connection per login. If several of your copies use accounts under one Rithmic login, CopyFlock shares one connection across them.

Adding TopstepX to the mix

TopstepX accounts can lead or follow too. Connect them with your TopstepX username and a ProjectX API key; API access is a separate ProjectX subscription. A common pattern is a Topstep account leading Apex followers on Rithmic, or a Tradovate personal account leading both Rithmic and TopstepX followers. See the TopstepX trade copier page for connection details.

Example setup: one Tradovate lead, three followers on two platforms

A trader keeps a personal $30,000 account on Tradovate and also holds two Apex evaluations on Rithmic and a Topstep account on TopstepX. They trade the personal account and want the prop accounts to follow at a size that suits each one.

Lead (Tradovate, personal) buys 3 MES
Apex 50K on Rithmic — contract multiplier 1
3 MES
Apex 50K on Rithmic — equity-to-equity, max 6
50,000 ÷ 30,000 × 3 = 5 MES
Topstep 50K on TopstepX — fixed contracts 2
2 MES

The two Apex followers sit on Rithmic and the Topstep follower on TopstepX, yet the settings work the same way on every platform. Only the connect method differs. Equity-to-equity uses live equity, so the second follower's size will drift as both balances change; the cap of 6 keeps it inside its limit.

When a connection breaks, the dashboard flags the account. Copying to that account stops until you reconnect it; the lead and other followers carry on.

Fills and timing across platforms

A follower's order is sent after the lead's fill is reported, so it always fills a moment later and may get a slightly different price. Across platforms the routing paths differ, which can add a little variation. A few habits keep the difference small:

  • Use limit orders for entries where you can; a follower's market order in a fast market can slip.
  • Turn on copy TP/SL so followers carry their own stops and targets instead of relying only on copied exits.
  • Avoid trading the lead during the first seconds of major news releases if you need followers to match closely.
  • Leave copy delay at zero unless you have a specific reason to stagger orders.

Troubleshooting cross-platform copies

  • Follower did not trade: check that it is switched on, not paused by account protection, and that the symbol is not blocked by a whitelist or blacklist.
  • Wrong contract on the follower: check its symbol aliases. Without an alias, the same contract as the lead is traded.
  • Wrong size: check the sizing mode, multiplier and caps. Remember results round to whole contracts.
  • Account shows as disconnected: reconnect it — sign in to Tradovate again, update the Rithmic password, or check the ProjectX API key.
  • Positions out of sync after a manual trade: use position resync on the follower.

Frequently asked questions

Still have questions? Read the full FAQ or email support.

Can I copy from Tradovate to Rithmic in real time?

Yes. CopyFlock sends the follower order as soon as the lead's fill is reported. Followers fill a moment later than the lead and may get a slightly different price.

Do both accounts need to be at the same firm?

No. The lead and followers can be at any supported firm or broker on Tradovate, Rithmic or TopstepX.

Do I need NinjaTrader or a VPS to copy across platforms?

No. Each account connects to CopyFlock directly and copying runs in the cloud.

Are CQG accounts supported?

No. CopyFlock supports Tradovate, Rithmic and TopstepX. CQG, Quantower and Volumetrica are not supported.
