How it works
How the CopyFlock trade copier works
CopyFlock connects to each of your futures accounts, watches the one you choose as the lead, and copies every fill to your followers with the size and protection you set for each. Here is exactly what happens, from connecting an account to a copied order landing on a follower.

Lead and followers
Every copy has one lead (sometimes called the master) and one or more followers. You trade the lead by hand, in whichever app you like. Followers never need your attention while copying is on: they take the lead's trades automatically, at their own size.
Followers can be on a different platform from the lead and at a different firm. A Tradovate lead can copy to Rithmic and TopstepX followers, and any other combination works too.
Connecting accounts
| Platform | How you connect | Notes |
|---|---|---|
| Tradovate | OAuth sign-in on Tradovate's page | Also covers NinjaTrader brokerage accounts. CopyFlock never sees your password. |
| Rithmic | Username, password and system | R|Trader Pro can stay open. One connection per login, shared by all copies. |
| TopstepX | Username and ProjectX API key | Requires a ProjectX API subscription. |
NinjaTrader 8 users connect the account behind NinjaTrader: Tradovate for brokerage accounts, Rithmic for prop accounts with a Rithmic login. See the NinjaTrader trade copier page. CQG, Quantower and Volumetrica are not supported.
What happens when the lead trades
In outline, each copied trade goes through these steps:
- You place an order on the lead account — in NinjaTrader, R|Trader Pro, Tradovate, TopstepX or any other front end.
- The order fills on the lead, and CopyFlock receives the fill through the account's connection.
- For each follower that is switched on, CopyFlock checks its filters (whitelist, blacklist, block trades without TP/SL) and whether it is paused.
- It works out the follower's size from its sizing mode, applies any symbol alias and multiplier, applies min/max and per-symbol caps, and rounds to whole contracts.
- If a copy delay is set, it waits. Then it sends the order to the follower through that follower's connection — reversed if reverse trades is on.
- With copy TP/SL on, the stop and target are placed on the follower too.
- The copied order appears in the copy log, and the dashboard updates the follower's position, balance, equity and P&L.
Exits, scale-ins and partial closes follow the same path. Because each follower order is sent after the lead fills, follower prices can differ slightly from the lead's.
Sizing modes
Each follower picks one sizing mode. Results always round to whole contracts, so use min/max caps to keep small accounts sensible.
| Mode | How it sizes | Example (lead buys 4 MES) |
|---|---|---|
| Equity-to-equity | Lead size × follower equity ÷ lead equity | Follower has half the lead's equity → 2 MES |
| Contract multiplier | Lead size × your multiplier | Multiplier 0.5 → 2 MES |
| Risk multiplier | Scales the lead trade's risk, measured from its stop loss, by your multiplier | Multiplier 1 → same risk as the lead |
| Fixed contracts | Always the same number of contracts | Fixed 1 → 1 MES |
| Fixed risk % | Contracts so the stop-loss risk is about a set % of the follower's balance | 0.5% of $50,000 = $250 at risk |
| Fixed risk $ | Contracts so the stop-loss risk is about a set dollar amount | $200 at risk |
Risk-based modes need a stop on the lead's order. Pair them with block trades without TP/SL so an entry without a stop is not copied.
Symbol aliases
An alias tells one follower to trade a different symbol from the lead, with its own multiplier — for example NQ→MNQ ×10 for the same exposure, or ×5 for half. There is no automatic mini-to-micro conversion; you choose the mapping per follower. Read the NQ to MNQ guide for examples.
Protection and controls
- Account protection — balance or equity minimums and maximums per account. Reaching one flattens the account and pauses copying to it.
- Min/max and per-symbol contract caps — hard limits on follower size.
- Copy TP/SL and block trades without TP/SL.
- Symbol whitelist and blacklist — copy only the markets you choose.
- Reverse trades — take the opposite side on a follower. Check your prop firm's hedging rules before using it.
- Copy delay — wait a set time before sending follower orders.
- Position resync — re-align a follower with the lead after a manual change.
- Pause, resume and close all — from the dashboard, at any time.
CopyFlock has no daily loss limit or trading-hours feature. Use account protection thresholds and pause/resume to cover those needs.
Monitoring
The dashboard shows live balance, equity and P&L for every connected account, plus each follower's status. The copy log records every order CopyFlock sent and the lead order it came from, so you can always answer 'did that copy, and at what size?'.
