NinjaTrader to TopstepX trade copier

How copying from NinjaTrader to TopstepX works

Topstep runs its accounts on TopstepX, so NinjaTrader 8 is not where you trade them. Copying bridges the two: trade your NinjaTrader brokerage or prop account in NT8 as usual, and CopyFlock puts the same trades on your Topstep accounts.

The NinjaTrader lead

CopyFlock does not connect to NinjaTrader itself. It connects to the account behind it — Tradovate for NinjaTrader brokerage accounts, Rithmic for prop accounts you trade in NT8 on a Rithmic connection — so every order you place in NT8 is copied when it fills, and nothing is installed in NinjaTrader. NT8 simulation accounts (Sim101 and playback) cannot lead.

The TopstepX followers

TopstepX followers connect through the ProjectX API as well. API access is a separate ProjectX subscription for the TopstepX login — CopyFlock cannot place orders on TopstepX without it — and Topstep's own rules on copy trading and position limits apply to every Topstep account.

How to copy trades from NinjaTrader to TopstepX

Step 1: Start a free trial
Create a CopyFlock account and start the 7-day free trial on 2 accounts — one NinjaTrader lead and one TopstepX follower. A card is required; cancel during the trial and you pay nothing.
Step 2: Connect the NinjaTrader lead
Check the connection in NinjaTrader's Connections menu. A NinjaTrader brokerage account connects as Tradovate (sign in on Tradovate's page); a prop account on a Rithmic connection connects as Rithmic (username, password and system).
Step 3: Connect the TopstepX followers
Activate ProjectX API access for the TopstepX login that holds the followers, then choose Add account → TopstepX and enter the username and API key.
Step 4: Create the copy
Pick the NinjaTrader account as the lead and the TopstepX accounts as followers. Choose a sizing mode for each follower: contract multiplier 1 for the same size, equity ratio for accounts of different sizes, or fixed contracts.
Step 5: Add caps and protection
Set a maximum contract cap and balance or equity thresholds that fit each TopstepX account's rules. Reaching a threshold flattens and pauses that follower.
Step 6: Test with one contract
Place a one-contract trade on the NinjaTrader lead and confirm each follower's order in the copy log. During the trial, followers copy a fixed 1 contract.

Sizing example: NinjaTrader lead, TopstepX followers

Lead (NinjaTrader brokerage, $50,000) buys 3 ES

Topstep 50K — fixed contracts 1: Always 1 ES
Topstep 100K — equity ratio, max 4: 100 ÷ 50 × 3 = 6, capped at 4 ES
Topstep 150K — alias ES→MES ×10: 3 × 10 = 30 MES (same exposure as 3 ES)

Set each Topstep follower's maximum contract cap to the position limit of its account.

Things to know before copying NinjaTrader to TopstepX

Followers fill after the lead. Each follower order is sent once the lead's fill is reported, so follower prices can differ slightly, especially with market orders in fast markets.
Manual changes stay manual. If you close a follower by hand, it stays closed and joins in again with the lead's next trade.
Symbols copy as they are. A TopstepX follower trades the lead's contract unless you add a symbol alias, for example NQ to MNQ.
Futures only. CQG, Quantower and Volumetrica connections are not supported.
Prop firm rules come first. Check that every firm involved allows copying between your own accounts — see prop firm copy trading rules.

Can I copy trades from NinjaTrader to TopstepX in real time?

Yes. CopyFlock sends each TopstepX follower its order as soon as the NinjaTrader lead's fill is reported. Followers fill a moment later than the lead and may get a slightly different price.

Does NinjaTrader need to stay open for trades to copy?

No. Copying runs on CopyFlock's servers, not inside NT8. NinjaTrader only needs to be open when you place trades on the lead from it.

Can I trade my Topstep account from NinjaTrader with CopyFlock?

Indirectly. Trade a NinjaTrader brokerage or prop account in NT8 as the lead, and CopyFlock copies each fill to the Topstep account on TopstepX. Check Topstep's current rules on copy trading first.

Can I copy from TopstepX to NinjaTrader as well?

Yes. Copying works in any direction between Tradovate, NinjaTrader accounts, Rithmic and TopstepX. See the TopstepX to NinjaTrader trade copier page.
